In fact, from ancient times to the present, pig’s mane, horse hair has been a good material to do brushes. Only modern people are too used to chemical nylon products, but feel that animal hair toothbrushes are very novel.
In the design of environmentally friendly bamboo toothbrushes, we take 100% natural decomposition as the principle, tried a number of bristles materials, including decomposable nylon Nylon 4, horse hair, pig’s hair, horse’s hair pig’s hair mixed and so on.
Decomposable Nylon Nylon 4 is the same as the general nylon bristles, can also be dyed into a variety of colors, is currently the mainstream of environmentally friendly toothbrushes.
The biodegradability of the decomposable nylon 4 came mainly from a study of Biodegradability of Plastics (biodegradability of plastics), which indicated that Nylon could be broken down over a period of 4 months in compost soils with active strains. Nylon 6 doesn’t work at all.
Finally, there are two main reasons why we don’t use decomposable nylon between animal hair and animal hair:
:: The environment of composting soil is not accessed by household waste or waste in general. Nylon 4 still doesn’t break down if the trash is thrown away.
Nylon 4 is just one of the products of the huge petrochemical industry, and although Nylon 4 can be decomposed, it still produces a lot of non-decomposable plastic waste by-products in the process of making Nylon 4. (Or Nylon 4 is made from by-products of other plastic products, such as polyamide resins, reactive sioxane, amine inhibitors, phosphates, paracetamol)

For nylon bristles, we hope to find bio-base Nylon from the biological process, rather than bio-degradable Nylon from the finished product. The biological process of nylon is based on organic matter as raw materials, fungi and bacteria decomposition into nylon raw materials. Not only is the finished product environmentally decomposable, but the manufacturing process is less likely to cause environmental hazards and other harmful by-products.

Since we don’t know much about the petrochemical industry and the complex chemical chain, and we can’t find nylon bristles for biological processes, we decided not to use decomposable nylon as a brush for the time being.

Horse hair sounds more advanced, but in fact the material is soft and inelastic, and it feels a bit like brushing your teeth with a brush. Because the material is too soft to feel like a bundle, it looks like an old toothbrush that has been used. It is also impossible to overcome the condition of hair shedding, almost every use will lose hair.

The problem with pig slugs is that they are too hard and irritate the gums too much. So we tried to mix it in various proportions using horse hair and pig’s slug. But it still doesn’t solve the problem, and mixed hair inherits only the disadvantages of both materials, not the advantages.
Finally, we found a supplier of pig slugs, able to provide soft and hard moderate pig slugs. The final finished product’s touch, similar to the general nylon bristles of the touch, close to the general consumer’s usage habits. If you don’t look blindfolded, you won’t find this is a toothbrush with pig’s bristles.
After a lot of testing and looking for raw material suppliers, Good Day finally made an eco-friendly toothbrush that can be 100% decomposed, and the experience was great. Final confirmation and packaging design are currently under way.
